Obituaries Marine engineer Benson A funeral will be held today for prominent Montreal engineer Norman Weir Benson, 73, who died suddenly Monday. Mr. Benson worked most of his life for the Montreal marine and industrial engineering firm J. and R. Weir.

He began there in 1930 as an apprentice. He rose through the ranks, working as the firm's chief draughtsman, technical engineer and finally becoming president, a post he held for 20 years. Described by one employee as a hard worker who never got home before 8 p.m., Mr. Benson was also past president of a number of institutes and societies, including the Montreal Sailors Institute, a group which welcomes international sailors. Although his first love was marine engineering, Mr.
